How the scales work
Each grade has a fixed number of increment points. Your starting point depends on prior recognised service, not on negotiation alone.
Where there is room to move
Starting point within the band, allowances, and the date of your first increment are all discussable.
What is fixed
The band itself is set nationally and cannot be exceeded by an individual institution.
